Troubling news could be on the horizon
EastEnders fans have been trying to work out what exactly will bring Lee and Nancy Carter back to Walford. However, following the latest hint, many viewers believe they may have finally figured it out.
Last month, it was confirmed that Maddy Hill and Danny Hatchard will reprise their roles as Nancy and Lee for a temporary return to EastEnders.
Nancy was last seen in 2022, while Lee departed in 2020, although he has made a few brief appearances since then. Now that both siblings are set to return to Walford, fans are beginning to worry that their comeback could be connected to a heartbreaking storyline.
Nancy and Lee set to return with ‘explosive’ scenes
Following the announcement of their return, Danny spoke to Digital Spy about what viewers can expect. While he naturally kept the finer details secret, he did tease that fans have plenty to look forward to.
He said: “It’s a very explosive return. It is my most exciting return yet. This is my fourth return, and I’ve got a lot to sink my teeth into. Let’s just say that.”
Lee and Nancy are set to return ahead of their mum Linda Carter’s shock departure, with Kellie Bright leaving the soap.
Their comeback comes at the end of an era for the Carter family, especially following Danny Dyer’s exit from his role as Mick Carter.
Danny admitted that he still doesn’t know exactly how his return will connect to Linda’s exit, but he assured fans that the storyline will be “exciting and well worth watching”.
His comments have now left fans questioning whether tragedy could be the real reason behind Lee and Nancy’s return to Walford.
EastEnders fans ‘think they’ve figured out’ the mystery behind Mick Carter
Mick Carter left EastEnders in 2022 when Danny Dyer departed the soap after nine years.
However, the circumstances surrounding his exit have remained a mystery ever since. Mick plunged from a cliff while attempting to save Linda, but she managed to get out of the water by herself.
Mick, meanwhile, was carried away by the current and presumed dead. Importantly, his body was never recovered.
For years, fans have hoped that Mick could eventually make a surprise return to The Queen Vic alive and well. But with Lee and Nancy set to return, and Linda also preparing to leave, viewers now believe Mick’s body could finally be found.
One fan wrote on social media: “Lee and Nancy returning… Is this how you tell us you’ve found Mick’s body?! I can’t even. Please no, not Mick!”
Another fan noticed a strange connection to their previous return, commenting that Lee and Nancy had last reunited in December 2024 for Linda’s special standalone episode, which showed a possible future for her if she continued drinking and featured a funeral.
They added: “Now, two years later, Lee and Nancy will reunite once more. This time surely it has to be for Mick Carter’s funeral…”
However, not everyone believes Mick is dead. One fan has suggested a completely different twist.
They wrote: “Wild theory. Lee and Nancy return for Mick’s funeral. Then Mick turns up alive and all the Carters can ride off into the sunset.”
Whatever happens with the Carter family, Danny Dyer’s comments certainly hint that Lee and Nancy’s upcoming EastEnders return could bring plenty of drama.
